ACT Prep

4/11-15/11 - This week students finished and presented their movies of the classic stories they rewrote using SAT vocabulary words.

4/4-8/11 - This week students are rewriting classic stories, like The Three Little Pigs, using SAT vocabulary words.  Students will produce a movie of their stories using Audacity and Windows Movie Maker.

3/23/11 - Students completed and graded the Ch. 22 Fighting Scientists drills #1 and 2.

3/22/11 - Students completed a crossword puzzle for Ch. 22 Fighting Scientists.

3/21/11 - Students wrote a short summary of Ch. 22 Fighting Scientists.

3/3/11 -3/4/11 - In honor of students' hardwork learning about the ACT science reasoning test, students watched a "science" movie.

2/28-3/2/11 - Students applied the strategies gleaned from ch. 20 to the three charts and graphs drills at the end of the chapter (pp. 331-333).

2/21-25/11 - Students worked independently on a video podcast about ch. 20. Video podcasts project is due 2/25/11.

2/14-18/11 - Students worked independently on a video podcast about ch. 20.

2/7-11/11 - Students worked in pairs to create Voki avatars to summarize an assigned section of Ch. 19. Voki avatars are due on 2/11/11.

1/31-2/4/11 - Students worked on SAT Vocabulary packets.

Today students scanned the math sections of the ACT booklet and indicated which topics they understood by placing a check mark next to it and the topics with which they had trouble by placing a question mark next to it.  We then worked on those topics that were problem spots.  Tomorrow is a major assessment on the math section.

Today students corrected their Homework Humdingers math assignment from 11/17.

Today students were allowed to work on their science project research papers. (Happy Thanksgiving!)

Today students were allowed to work on their science project research papers which are due tomorrow in their science classes.

Today students completed the Homework Humdingers assignment.  On this assignment, students had to conduct error analysis on math problems, and then use complete sentences to describe how to arrive at the correct answer.

Tuesday 11/16/10
Today students finished the math drill on page 116.  Problems were worked out on the board and students were able to help each other figure out how to solve the difficult problems on the drill.

Today we began Part III in the ACT book: the math section.  Students watched the math section of the ACT DVD before beginning the Basic Math drill on page 116.

Today we finished watching Over the Hedge.

Today we discussed the answers to the ch. 7 test.  Students did very well!  We watched the first part of the movie, Over the Hedge, as a reward.

The students continued the chapter 8 assignment that was started yesterday.

Today we took a grammar and usage test (ch. 7).  Then students took a rhetorical skills pretest and used chapter 8 in the ACT book to identify the following things about each question: rhetorical skill being tested, correct answer choice, and justification for each answer choice.

Today we discussed the grammar and usage packet (for ch. 7) that was turned in on 10/25. Students were allowed to make corrections for a re-grade.

Students played each other's games and critiqued them. Funny stuff!

Today small groups were assigned sections of part I (chapters 1-4) in the ACT textbook. Each group will create informative and creative podcasts of their assigned section.

Today we discussed the answers to Friday's video worksheet. Those who had not completed assignment #1 were allowed to do so today.

Today we watched the first 24 minutes of the "Cracking the ACT" DVD. We also completed a video worksheet.

Today we created accounts on The Princeton Review website. We also completed assignment #1.

Today we tried creating accounts on The Princeton Review website.  Unfortunately, most students experienced problems with the laptops, so we spent the period consulting with tech support.  We'll try it again tomorrow.

Today we discussed the purpose of this course and what topics will be addressed.  We also discussed classroom rules and procedures and completed a related crossword puzzle.
