Today students did review activities (e.g. What am I? competition between pairs) to prepare for tomorrow's biochemistry test. Students should use pages 36-56 in the INB as a study guide.

Today students took the Florida Writes test during 1st and 2nd periods. All other periods watched part one of an animated science movie. Part two will be shown on Friday. During this science movie, students are expected to create a list of terms they recognize from the biochemistry unit.

Today students were offered an extra credit opportunity: extemporaneous speaking. Volunteers were given a random topic to speak about for 3 minutes. Topics ranged from ice cream to chemical reactions. This activity was an effort to train students to "think on their feet" and orally communicate their thoughts effectively. Eventually, students will be expected to stand and deliver a 3 minute extemporaneous speech about randomly chosen biology-related vocabulary terms and concepts.

This week students worked on a simulation of polymerization as we continued our study of the four major biological macromolecules: carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids and proteins. See Ms. Sanders for puzzle pieces and instructions. Students also watched an informative video clip about carbon compounds and completed ch. 2-3 worksheet. See Ms. Sanders for the worksheet, if necessary.
